A Legend of Zelda movie isn’t happening at Illumination Entertainment but it may be better for the video game franchise to avoid a cinematic universe.
Now that the rumor that Illumination Entertainment is working on a Legend of Zelda movie has been squashed, the potential on-screen adaptation of the video game franchise has an even brighter future than it had before. After Illumination's last project, The Super Mario Bros. Movie became a box office hit, rumors naturally began to swirl about what they would tackle next and whether it would be attached to the Super Mario Bros. universe.
The Legend Of Zelda Not Being Part Of Super Mario's Universe Is A Relief While the possibility of Illumination Entertainment creating a future Nintendo cinematic universe may have been an interesting development, it's actually a good thing that a Legend of Zelda movie will not be joining it. Although the current trend in Hollywood is creating a vast and meticulous world in which to stage a constant stream of movies, this trope won't last forever.
As the news spreads that Illumination Entertainment has no plans to create an animated Legend of Zelda movie, hopefully, new plans from other studios will be put into progress. Although the rumor has been debunked, Legend of Zelda will now be top of mind, and there is certainly plenty of interest from audiences. Therefore, whether the film is live-action or animated, the hope is that, soon enough, a Legend of Zelda film will be made.
