We talk shop with the man behind the Acura brand.On this week's extra fresh episode of The InEVitable, we talk with Acura boss Jon Ikeda. Acura launched in the U.S. and Canada nearly 40 years ago, beating Lexus to market by a full three years. Yet once again, the Japanese premium performance brand finds itself at an inflection point.
Ikeda is uniquely positioned to be in his position. Born in Tokyo, his family moved to Los Angeles in 1978. Soon thereafter he discovered a book on car design in his third-grade library. His doodling and sketching evolved to the point that a professor in dental school recommended he transfer to Art Center. Once there, Ikeda landed an internship at General Motors and in fact planned on accepting a job in Detroit after he graduated.
