While Marvel and DC fight for box office dominance with new phases of superheroes and reboots of origin stories, film producers Matt Hartley and Shiv Rajagopal have gone back to the basics with their new entertainment media venture, The Forgottens. Through their new project, which includes the launch of Forgotten Films, Hartley and Rajagopal aim to reacquaint modern audiences with classic characters from the comics of the Golden Age.
Comic books as a medium have always championed the underdog, and Forgotten Films hopes to serve as a reminder of that important fact by introducing iconic heroes from the '30s, '40s, and beyond who were fighting for representation and equality in their own time.
SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT Meet The Forgottens Close Given Forgotten Films' express goal to celebrate minority groups and cultures on the big screen, it's no surprise that their initial slate of featured characters is full of heroes who represent some of the firsts in their fields.
“We want to bring a different type of comic book film to the market and reimagine what it means to be a superhero,” adds Rajagopal. “Films are only the first step for the leadership of the company as we plan to expand into TV, video games, graphic novels, and of course, a line of comic books under the umbrella.”
Close Matt Hartley is a filmmaker who has written, directed and produced movies such as Under the Crystal Sky, Cult Following, Apotheosis, and Silhouettes. As an executive at finance company NextWave GP, he streamlines funding, acquisition, and growth models in various industries. Shiv Rajagopal, meanwhile, has produced several short films such as A Certain Kind of Man, Parallax, Alliances, and Eyes of the Beholder in addition to co-writing Under the Crystal Sky.
