Exclusive: The Flash supervising sound editor Nancy Nugent details the eerie way in which early test audiences saw the film’s two Barrys.

The Flash has arrived in theaters seven years after Ezra Miller’s take on the character first appeared in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. The film is full of multiversal mayhem which has facilitated the return of some of the most beloved live-action versions of comic book characters, with Michael Keaton’s Batman being a prime example. The film utilizes the concept of the multiverse to its full potential, with variants across eras of DC Comics joining the fray.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY SCROLL TO CONTINUE WITH CONTENT The multiversal aspects of The Flash are not constrained to its supporting characters, either; the film essentially stars two Barry Allens, both played in the final cut by Ezra Miller. Many steps were taken to make that a reality, however, which led to what must have been an incredibly eerie test screening.

Nancy Nugent: It was a little more complicated on the dialogue ADR side of things because of the two Barry Allens that were filmed and the process to getting them there together. In all the scenes where you see two Ezras, one of them is being played by another actor named Ed Wade. Slowly but surely, over the process of the movie, Ed was replaced by Ezra, but it was a process.

Why The Flash Should Have Been The Last DCEU Film The Flash is not the final entry in the DCEU—that honor is reserved for the upcoming Aquaman & The Lost Kingdom–but the nature of its story arguably would have made it the ideal way to close out Zack Snyder’s universe. With James Gunn and Peter Safran running DC and ushering in the rebranded DCU, The Flash will soon be part of yet another era of DC Comics past.

Still, there are elements of the DCEU that could easily continue on into the DCU. Rumors abound that Gal Gadot may return as Wonder Woman and Jason Momoa has expressed confidence that he will continue to play Aquaman after Aquaman & The Lost Kingdom is released. Whether Ezra Miller will reprise their role as The Flash, however, remains to be seen.
