The Cowboys’ 2018 draft class turned out a lot better than most people think | JJT_Journalist
Dallas Cowboys pick Leighton Vander Esch during the first round of the NFL Draft at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, Thursday, April 26, 2018.The 2018 Cowboys’ draft turned out a lot better than most folks think, even though it had only one Pro Bowl player. Now is a good time to judge that draft because the players taken that year have either re-signed with Dallas or left via free agency.
What made it a good draft is the Cowboys found full-time starters with picks in each of the first four rounds, who played in 224 of a possible 260 games. They also found significant role players, defensive end Dorance Armstrong and wide receiver Cedrick Wilson, in the fourth and sixth rounds, respectively., then it would’ve been a great draft.
Vander Esch was second-team All-Pro as a rookie but he didn’t come close to reaching those heights again. You can blame injuries, poor scheme fit and inconsistency for his lack of production the past three seasons.
