The user interface is bespoke to Charge, running on Arrival software to provide onboard technology such as sat-nav, phone connectivity, traffic light recognition, and adaptive cruise control. Altogether it feels luxurious and contemporary, and Charge intends every car to be unique, with owners choosing between dozens of options in interior brightwork, leather, and stitching.
If the Charge ’67 is impressive when you’re sitting curbside, it only gets more convincing when you set off. Given that this is a startup company making a complex EV for the first time, the car feels incredibly accomplished and refined.Setting off, the throttle pedal feels beautifully measured, allowing you to unleash the gigantic 1,120 pound-feet of electric torque in a smooth and deliberate way.
Even the steering is engaging, which is probably the most unexpected element of all. Instead of feeling overassisted and detached like some luxo-barge, the ’67 has real feedback, allowing you to sense what’s going on under those front tires. The ’67 is by no means a lightweight , but that steering response combined with a firm ride together suggest a kind of playfulness, a willingness to change direction.
