This month, Quinyx launched its US operations, stepping up its bid for a bigger slice of the $18 billion human capital management software market.$40 million from investors that include Battery Ventures,Erik Fjellborg was flipping burgers at a McDonald's in Sweden when he saw the hassles a restaurant manager had to deal with managing schedules and shifts.

Fjellborg was then a high school student with a passion for computers, and his McDonald's stint sparked an idea, software to help businesses manage a workplace better. McDonald's Swedish subsidiary became one of its first customers, and Quinyx also has been embraced by the burger chain in other Nordic countries, Fjellborg said.
