gave it a good run for its money. While not quite as sturdy-feeling as the OXO components, the dishwasher-safe Zyliss pieces were a close second in terms of quality construction. Also, the ridged strainer basket—a tweak that is billed by the brand as "aquavent technology" to remove water—did seem to work efficiently: after 30 seconds of spinning, we collected 3 1/2 tablespoons of water from the bottom of the bowl, just a tad less than the OXO, but still a very solid showing.
Like our top pick, the Zyliss also won points for its large capacity, stability, and easy one-handed operation. Though it requires a bit more elbow grease to get going than the OXO, the sturdy pop-up lever on the lid gets the basket moving quickly and vigorously, and the substantial rubber ring around the base keeps it steady on the counter without any need for bracing.
Other quibbles were mainly aesthetic: the bright green basket and accents on the lid are eye-catching but might not appeal to everyone and could make it less versatile as a sink-to-table vessel. Still, all in all, this is a great salad spinner, and if you want to give a relative newcomer a chance—this Zyliss model has only been available for a couple of years compared to the OXO's decades—you won't be disappointed.
