Perhaps the most telling moment in round two of the Democratic presidential debates this week came in a testy exchange between Cory Booker and Joe Biden.
I don’t mean the New Jersey senator’s memorable put-down of the former vice president over the two men’s criminal-justice records: “There’s a saying in my community: ‘You’re dipping into the Kool-Aid, and you don’t even know the flavor,’” Mr. Booker said, in a carefully rehearsed dig. Splendidly colorful as that was, I couldn’t help wondering which of his “communities” the candidate was referring to: Stanford graduates? Rhodes scholars? Members of the U.S.
