HAPPENING NOW: Teachers/school employees, union leaders/members, and other community organizations fighting for sensible gun regulation are participating in a march from Capitol to Austin office of SenTedCruz WATCH LIVE:
A group representing nearly 70,000 teachers is joining together with other organizations to protest outside of Texas Republican U.S. SenatorIn a news release, the Texas American Federation of Teachers says the march is going on to send a message to Cruz and they're asking him to "stop the gun violence with commonsense steps in the U.S. Senate.""abominable" and says, "The senator is beating a drum promoting the status quo instead of leading in the U.S.
"Cruz’s response to the slaughter of children—pushing for more armed school staff—is not only opposed by a vast majority of teachers, but also is an illogical idea that has not proven to be effective," the group adds.The Texas American Federation of Teachers, which represents roughly 70,000 teachers, plans to protest outside of Sen. Cruz's office over his stance on guns. FOX 7 Austin's Kelly Saberi has details.
Texas AFT President Zeph Capo will be at the march which is expected to include teachers/school employees, union leaders/members, and other community organizations that are fighting for sensible gun regulation. The march will start at the Texas AFL-CIO building at 1106 Lavaca Street at noon and then will head to Cruz's Austin office at the J.J. Pickle Federal Building on 300 E. 8th STreet. A protester was caught on camera confronting Texas Senator Ted Cruz in Houston about the recent massacre at a Uvalde elementary school that claimed the lives of 19 children, and two teachers.
