SAN MARCOS — For the second consecutive season, the Texas State Bobcats reached bowl eligibility and then jumped in the San Marcos River to celebrate. This time they did so on homecoming, thrashing the Southern Miss Eagles 58-3 on Saturday night at UFCU Stadium. “A really fun night,” Texas State coach G.J. Kinne said. “Huge night for our football program, this university and everyone involved.
” While the offense stole the show, the defense held their opponent to single digits for the second time this season while keeping the Eagles to just 194 total yards. Texas State’s offense leads the Sun Belt in points per game while its defense is second in points allowed . “That’s something that is maybe getting overlooked on the season is how well the defense has played,” Kinne said. “We’re playing really clean football as well with the penalties and special teams.
