San Antonio state Rep. John Lujan , a Republican locked in one of the most competitive reelection bids this cycle, came under attack from his Democratic opponent this week over comments he made supporting the state abortion ban. In an interview with Texas Public Radio on Thursday, Lujan said that if he had a daughter who was raped and became pregnant, he would tell her to carry the baby to term. “As a Christian man, I’m very pro-life, but man, I struggled with the rape and incest,” he said.
Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton sues to block Austin from funding out-of-state abortion travel Public opinion polls have shown 80% of Texans believe abortions should be allowed in cases of rape and incest. Texas women have sued the state over the ban, saying the law is so vague that doctors are afraid to terminate dangerous pregnancies that put patient’s health and fertility at risk.
