When Texas Gov. Greg Abbott delivered his State of the State speech on Thursday night, it was in front of invited guests and a TV camera. Journalists had to wait outside.
The address is usually delivered in front of a joint session of the Texas Legislature. But this year, Abbott departed from norms and chose to deliver the speech at Noveon Magnetics Corps., a magnet manufacturer.
The Associated Press on Thursday afternoon confirmed that had received permission from Nexstar to access its video and to take screen grabs of the broadcast, said Lisa Nicole Matthews, the AP's planning editor for U.S. News. "Our local journalists, including visual journalists, carry the responsibility of spreading information that the public deserves to know," said an email by Dallas Morning News director of visual journalism David Guzman.None of the attendees were allowed to have cell phones inside the facility, because of"national security and corporate espionage concerns," according to a memo obtained by the Caller-Times.
