For the first time in four years, Texas Ballet Theater is dancing to live music in Dallas. A bonus: It’s in a production of artistic director laureate Ben Stevenson’s haunting, visually spectacularThe score by Franz Liszt, to be played by the Dallas Opera Orchestra, was assembled from the composer’s various gothic pieces.

The original $1 million production premiered at Houston Ballet in 1997, the 100th anniversary of Bram Stoker’s novel. TBT uses re-creations of the same elaborate sets, costumes and special effects. In one especially riveting scene, Dracula’s 18 victim-brides slowly swirl across the stage.The Fort Worth-based company last performed to live music in Dallas for a 2019 production ofat Winspear Opera House. When Dracula moves to Bass Performance Hall in Fort Worth, TBT will use a recorded score.
