Surprising Texas A&M women topple Mississippi State in SEC Tournament
Janiah Barker, right, and the Texas A&M women’s basketball team equaled their regular-season SEC win total by knocking off fifth-seeded Mississippi State on Thursday in the second round of the conference tournament.Texas A&M, after winning two of 16 games in SEC regular season play, was widely predicted to make a courtesy call at the Southeastern Conference’s postseason powwow and begin planning for next season.
“These last two games, it’s all coming together — our babies are growing up. We still have a lot of growing up to do, but you can watch it happen in front of you. They trust the process.” The only chance for A&M under Taylor to make the event that truly matters nationally — the NCAA Tournament — is to earn the SEC’s automatic bid by winning the league tournament.
“It’s just survive and advance,” Bowles said of the Aggies’ approach when it matters most. “We’re just thinking about getting to the next game and competing. … One of our main things we’ve been trying to become is consistent — consistently trying to win quarters and … if we get hit, not letting that waver us.”
