Devone Achane and the Aggies were in a mood to celebrate after a win over LSU but the Texas A&M running back may be headed for the NFL next year.COLLEGE STATION — Texas A&M’s season finale — a month earlier than what Aggies had grown accustomed to in the past decade — both inspired and aggravated fans.
Instead, the Aggies are 5-7 and ineligible for a bowl for the first time since 2008, when they finished 4-8 under first-year coach Mike Sherman. The hope for A&M moving forward stems from their five close calls this season under fifth-year coach Jimbo Fisher. “It’s good for your confidence and what goes on and just shows you what you’re capable of,” Fisher said of beating LSU by 15 points after the Tigers were favored by 10. “It also shows those things you’ve got to grow to, and that’s part of growing up — getting to win and learning how to do that. And our kids had to fight through that, and they played in stretches during the year.
“Just keep believing and having faith in the process and taking it week by week, even though you’re losing,” offensive lineman Layden Robinson said of the Aggies’ approach during the myriad setbacks. “Just keeping that faith and just keeping going every single day. It’s amazing what you can pull out if you just keep grinding, keep having that grit to gut it out every day and handle your business.”
