COLLEGE STATION — The NCAA selection committee slept on surging Texas A&M in ultimately denying the Aggies a spot in the NCAA Tournament on March 13.A&M defeated Wake Forest 67-52 on Wednesday night in the quarterfinals of the National Invitation Tournament. The Aggies, who have won 10 of their last 11, are headed to the NIT’s final four in New York for the first time in seven previous trips to basketball’s oldest ongoing postseason tournament.
A&M had made a strong case for NCAA Tournament admission by closing out the regular season with four consecutive victories and then winning three of four in the SEC tournament in Tampa, Fla. The Aggies lost in the league title game to Tennessee, which had played one less game at that point in the postseason and had fresher legs.
