and their first official memoir, titled, appearing on the couch of an American late night talk show for the first time ever.
Chatting with Colbert about their new memoir, the sisters spoke about their desire to write their "origin story," and how that manifested itself in their new book. "It wasn't just a music memoir," Sara said. "It really started to be about our identities as twin sisters, and as songwriters, as creative people, and also -- hold on -- we're queer as well, so we cover that as well!" Tegan cheekily added, "Sara just came out, you're very brave.
Tegan also revealed that despite their status as twins, the two never officially came out to one another, saying, "I only found out that Sara was gay when we wrote the book," . The singer also recalled a story where she was uninvited from a sleepover with one of her friends, because Sara was sleeping with her. "It was very like, 'What's happening behind this closed door right now?'" Tegan said. Sara jokingly replied: "And I was like, 'Get a life.
After touching on their drug use in high school and how they came together in songwriting, the two gave a performance of their single "I'll Be Back Someday." Accompanied by drummer Sarah Thawer, the duo shredded on their respective guitars on a simple stage made up of stacked amps and multicolored lights. below:
