A group of lawyers filed a complaint to the State Bar of Texas over Sen. Ted Cruz for his attempts to overturn the 2020 election, claiming he"played a leading role" in trying to change the election results.
The lawyers from the 65 Project, a group aiming"to hold accountable" lawyers who tried to overturn the 2020 election, asked for Cruz to be investigated and for sanctions to be placed on him for his role in several lawsuits to overturn the election results. The lawsuits mentioned in the complaint include Kelly v. Pennsylvania and Texas v. Pennsylvania, in which Cruz agreed to represent former President Donald Trump and Pennsylvania Republicans in litigation before the U.S.
"Mr. Cruz played a leading role in the effort to overturn the 2020 elections," the complaint reads."And while the same can be said about several other elected officials, Mr. Cruz’s involvement was manifestly different."The complaint does not clarify how the lawyers want to see Cruz disciplined, though it does mention Rudy Giuliani and how his law license was suspended by a New York appellate court for his claims the election results were fraudulent.
The 65 Project has already filed 11 complaints against"Trump's Big Lie Lawyers, Fake Electors, and attorneys" and said that"there are 100 more on our list." The group intends to file more complaints"in the coming months," it wrote on social media.
