TCU offers a full scholarship to McAllen native and walk-on slot receiver Gunnar Henderson.
“All my hard work has paid off,” he said proudly. “Obviously I’m still hungry and I still have dreams. But it’s just a big weight off my shoulders and off my family’s shoulders."“Once I got into the locker room, I called [my parents],” he said. “My dad was at work. My mom was at home. My dad got up from work and left. He was like, 'I don’t need to work today.' I was just happy I was able to tell him I’m on scholarship and he was able to go home and enjoy his day.
Henderson’s impact on the field has impressed everyone within the program, especially the man throwing him the footballs. “I mean, he’s been grinding this offseason,” said sophomore quarterback Chandler Morris. “He’s definitely one to look out for. He’s my roommate too, so I have to show him some love.”
“They didn’t have to believe in a 5-foot-8, 175-pound guy like me from McAllen, Texas,” said Henderson. “But they do. I’m very thankful and I couldn’t be more grateful to be here.”
