The plumes from Taal Volcano grew from 1,800 meters on Sunday to 2,400 meters on Monday, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS).

In its latest bulletin, PHIVOLCS said the plumes drifted to the west-northwest and northwest directions.

A total of six volcanic earthquakes, including one volcanic tremor, had been recorded in the volcano in the past 24 hours, PHIVOLCS said, adding the earthquakes lasted up to four minutes. Taal Volcano emitted 9,623 tonnes of sulfur dioxide, PHIVOLCS said. It also reported an upwelling of hot volcanic fluids in the Main Crater Lake.

A short-term inflation of the western Taal Volcano Island and a long-term deflation of the Taal Caldera were also observed in Taal Volcano, which remains under Alert Level 1 due to low-level unrest. Entry to Taal Volcano Island remains prohibited, especially the main crater and Daang Kastila fissures, as well as occupancy and boating on Taal Lake.PHIVOLCS warned of possible hazards such as steam-driven, phreatic, or gas-driven explosions, volcanic earthquakes, minor ashfall, and lethal accumulations or expulsions of volcanic gas.
