Charges remain in Dauphin County Court alleging Sonya McKnight was accused of shooting her ex-boyfriend through the head after he tried breaking up with him.
The case against a suspended Harrisburg Magisterial District Judge accused of shooting her ex-boyfriend through the head is strong enough to continue through Dauphin County Court , according to an order filed Tuesday.
But Cumberland County prosecutors prevailed on the argument that the cumulative weight of circumstantial evidence made it more probable than not that McKnight was the person who shot Michael McCoy in one temple and out the other Feb. 9 while he was sleeping. He had been shot through the head by McKnight’s handgun and required extensive facial reconstruction and retinal reattachment, according to Courtney Hair LaRue, a prosecutor with the Cumberland County District Attorney’s Office.
“The Commonwealth’s argument remains that there were only two people present, and because Mr. McCoy says that he did not shoot himself, the shooter must have been Ms. McKnight,” Leshner wrote. “This is not circumstantial proof of her involvement; it is mere conjecture or suspicion.”
