A detailed theory shared on Reddit explains that Paolo wasn’t the real villain in The Lizzie McGuire Movie and he never actually lied to Lizzie – Isabella, on the other hand, wasn’t as innocent as she made everyone believe and was the real villain.
The author then explains why Paolo never actually lip-synced nor was he a bad singer, and Isabella was the one who lip-synced. When Gordo and the sound guy turned down Lizzie’s mic so Isabella could sing for her, Paolo’s mic was left at full volume, because he could actually sing. When Isabella signaled Gordo and Paolo’s mic was turned down, he turned up three unlabeled sound channels, and Paolo immediately sounded terrible because that wasn’t Paolo singing – it was a track brought by Isabella.
However, there’s one detail that can easily debunk the theory despite all its evidence throughout the movie. When Isabella arrives at the Colosseum with Gordo, she asks the sound guy if Paolo brought a voice track for her, with the guy saying he didn't, as she would sing live as she always did. If Paolo wasn't evil, he would have brought the track for Lizzie, though the author of the theory explains this by saying the sound guy could have been on Isabella’s side.
