News of Thomas' hospitalization came before confirmation hearings for Ketanji Brown Jackson, President Joe Biden's pick to replace Justice Stephen Breyer.

The Supreme Court did not respond when asked for information about the health of 73-year-old Justice Clarence ThomasIt was unclear whether Thomas was still recovering in Sibley Memorial Hospital in Washington, D.C., where he had been admitted on Friday after experiencing flu-like symptoms.

The statement also said Thomas' "symptoms are abating" after receiving antibiotics and he expected to "be released from the hospital in a day or two." Confirmed in 1991, Thomas is currently the longest-serving justice on the high court, and the second-oldest behind 83-year-old Breyer, who is retiring.
