As Fox News prepares for its annual coverage of the Super Bowl championship, one of its regular segments may be missing from the lineup: an interview with the sitting president.
With just three days until the championship game, the White House has yet to commit to a one-on-one interview between President Joe Biden and a Fox News anchor, according to Variety. Fox News executives did not outline any conditions for the interview, but network executives are reportedly proceeding as if the exchange will not take place, the outlet reported.
Biden has long been picky about offering one-on-one interviews with news outlets during his first White House term. However, he has completed some high-profile interviews in recent days after meeting with PBS NewsHour’s Judy Woodruff to discuss a slew of topics, including the classified documents found at his home in Delaware.
A Super Bowl absence for Biden wouldn’t be the first time a sitting president has snubbed a news outlet of the prominent pre-championship interview. Trump also declined to speak with NBC News in 2018, with some White House officials surmising it was because he wanted to avoid questions about his criticism of football players who kneeled during the national anthem, according to Variety.A final decision has not been made, and an interview with the outlet could still take place.
