ASU’s offense has made improvement under interim coach Shaun Aguano. Starting Trenton Bourget at quarterback was a smart move, even if it was at least a week overdue. So was Aguano's decision to take over the play-calling and place emphasis on increasing tempo and incorporating the tight ends more.
ASU entered Saturday’s game with 9 sacks on the season, ranking them 123rd out of 131 FBS teams. They had 30 tackles for loss, 129th. And they were the only FBS team that hadn’t recovered a fumble this season until they did so in the fourth quarter Saturday. But ASU showed some moxie, and the Bruins probably relaxed some. The Sun Devils went on an 18-0 run, trimming a 24-point deficit to 6 points with 6:24 left.
