Up to 16 nonprofit agencies in Lake and Porter counties will get help coordinating their transportation services, thanks to a new study approved Thursday by the Northwestern Indiana Regional Planning Commission’s executive board.
TranSystems, of Chicago, will do the $58,170 study “to determine whether organizing a new transportation agency to coordinate transportation services for nonprofit agencies in Lake and Porter Counties is feasible,” the NIRPC resolution for the study says. The Legacy Foundation, the Crown Point Community Foundation and the Porter County Community Foundation will help fund the work. It is expected to last about seven months.
It grew out of conversations led by Goodwill and the Boys and Girls Clubs, along with the Center for Workforce Innovations. He said the study would look for ways to save money and time for the nonprofits and “provide a more rational nonprofit transportation system.” The model would be a transportation system for nonprofits in Fort Wayne, Vander Woude said.
