- Diabetes could affect more than 1.3 billion people around the world by 2050, according to aThe projected figure is more than double the amount of people living with the disease in 2021.

Experts attribute the expected rise in diabetes to common risk factors like a poor diet, use of tobacco or alcohol, and low physical activity. Most of the rises in cases are expected to be Type 2 diabetes, which is largely preventable and often reversible.
