Students mark National Fentanyl Awareness Day with a field trip to the DEA's office [Breaking]
Students from two local high schools took a field trip to the Drug Enforcement Administration’s Kearny Mesa office on Tuesday to hear about the dangers of fentanyl.
DEA officials say fentanyl is flooding the illicit drug market and often is sold to unsuspecting buyers who think they are taking Percocet, Xanax or even cocaine. The students were told how to recognize symptoms of opioid overdoses, and taught how to administer a nasal spray known as naloxone that can reverse the effects of an overdose. They also heard a presentation about a drug-detecting dog and met with chemists from the DEA’s lab.
