Recipients of a food and utility subsidy program in Chelsea, Massachusetts, only need to wait a little more than a week before they receive their next payment from the program.
These payments, ranging from $200 to $400, will be given to 738 selected households on April 15. The payments are meant to subsidize food and utility bill payments for residents."Recipients of the program will be chosen using a lottery system," according to the program's website.
A Chelsea city spokesperson told the Washington Examiner that the funds would be loaded to recipients' debit cards, which were already issued to recipients in early March. Recipients were chosen through a lottery system. To have been eligible for this program, families had to have been residents of Chelsea and had a household income 30% less than the area median. Households of one would have to make below $29,450, and households of two would have to make below $33,650 to be part of the program. The amount increased for each additional member of the household.
The amount recipients will receive from this program will depend on how many people are in their household. A household of one will receive $200, a household of two will receive $300, and a household of three or more will receive $400.This payment will mark the second of three payments recipients will receive from this program. The first payment was already issued on March 15, and the final payment will be issued on May 15.
The spokesperson told the Washington Examiner the program would be discontinued after the final payment.

Massachusetts weighs letting judges order mental health careMassachusetts lawmakers are considering a bill that would give judges the authority to order adults with a severe mental illness into mandatory outpatient care, after being released from a health care facility. Massachusetts, along with Connecticut and Maryland, are the only states that don’t give courts that authority. The court would be allowed to order a personalized treatment plan, including a monthly assessment to see if the person should remain in treatment. Supporters say for the severely mentally ill, mandatory outpatient care can help break a revolving door cycle of hospitalizations. Opponents say forcing anyone into mental health care against their will strips them of their sense of control.
