RENZE, LOU A 22-year-old State College man was arrested after police said he tried to scam a couple by acting as a federal agent and showing up at their house.
The victims called the number and spoke to a male with a heavy accent, identified only as "Ronnie Chase," who told the victims that their bank accounts were hacked and they needed to withdraw all their money and provide it to a "federal agent." Police said that "Chase" stayed on the phone with the victims throughout the day, and eventually directed the victim to walk outside and hand the fake federal agent the money.
The individual left the area on foot without the money, and the victims called 911, and police advised units in Clinton and Lycoming Counties to be on the lookout for the individual.
