Letting go of his fear, Jedi Kanan Jarrus fought the Grand Inquisitor with a higher degree of skill than he had ever previously demonstrated, ultimately leading to his victory.
In a 2016 interview with Slash Film, Dave Filoni explained that the Grand Inquisitor appeared as an apparition to Kanan in the Lothal Jedi temple as a reflection of his guilt. Kanan came out triumphant in his fight with the Inquisitor, but he didn't win morally. Part of Kanan's Jedi journey centered on moving away from the swashbuckler he had become and accepting the man he needed to be. Recognizing that he could have done more, despite the Inquisitor's horrible deeds, is worthy of becoming a Jedi.
