Star Trek: Enterprise was about humans exploring the galaxy for the first time, but the Vulcans' role in the series undermined Starfleet's voyages.
Star Trek: Enterprise's showrunner, Manny Coto, identified the Vulcans as one of the biggest core issues that undermined the prequel series in Peter Holmstrom's oral history, The Center Seat: 55 Years of Star Trek. Star Trek: Enterprise ran for four seasons on the United Paramount Network from 2001-2005. The series was low-rated and succumbed to Star Trek franchise fatigue as well as a regime change in the struggling UPN Network.
The problem with the presence of the Vulcans on Enterprise is that you had a group of characters who already knew everything we were trying to find out, but were holding back that information just because they were grumpy and didn't like us. We were trying to explore new worlds, but you got the impression the Vulcans had already been to all these places. So it's like, "Oh great! We're number two!" We were just following in their footsteps.
