Spurred by impact newcomers, UTSA looks to continue growing in second season under Karen Aston

The Roadrunners fell 66-50 to the Lady Eagles.After leading USC in scoring and earning recognition as the Pac-12's Most Improved Player last year, Jordyn Jenkins felt she was ready for a change.
“I’m trusting coach Karen a lot, and I’m trusting the staff,” Jenkins said. “They’ve already made huge strides with our team from the summer until now. I honestly feel like we can only go up.” With five freshmen and a pair of transfers on the roster, much of last year’s effort to shift UTSA's culture will have to be repeated, with Aston saying “we’re a year away from the complete installation.”
Jenkins, a junior, figures to be critical to taking the next steps, arriving at UTSA after averaging 14.8 points and 6.7 rebounds per game last season. Before playing her first minute with the Roadrunners, she was tabbed to the Becky Hammon Mid-Major Player of the Year Award Preseason Watch List and selected to the preseason All-Conference USA team.
“She’s a player who will make a giant impact on our team, just because she wants to be good,” Aston said. “She wants to grow. She wants to set the tone.” “That’s a really good thing, because we have more people who were recruited by our coaching staff,” Coleman said. “I feel like they’re more bought into our coaching staff and our culture now this year, instead of last year, when we had some stragglers.”
