Spirit Airlines launches first nonstop out of San Diego in 5 years [Breaking]
Just in time for the summer season, Spirit Airlines is launching nonstop service between San Diego and Oakland, its first new route here since 2017.“We appreciate Spirit Airlines growing their service at SAN and providing another option for San Diegans to get to the Bay Area,” said Kimberly Becker, San Diego County Regional Airport Authority President and CEO.
The only air carrier currently offering nonstop service between San Diego and Oakland is Southwest Airlines. Before the pandemic, Southwest was operating as many as 12 daily roundtrips between the two cities and presently is offering nine daily roundtrips, said San Diego airport spokeswoman Sabrina LoPiccolo. Starting in the summer, though, the number of roundtrips is expected to return to 12, she added.
