Specific antipsychotics prescribed in high doses were linked to an increased risk for pneumonia in patients with schizophrenia, new research showed.
Using several nationwide data registers, investigators pulled data on individuals who received inpatient care for schizophrenia orData on drug use were gathered from a prescription register and included dispensing dates, cost, dose, package size, and drug formulation. Data on dates and causes of death were obtained from the Causes of Death register.
After entering the cohort, follow-up started in January 1996 or after the first diagnosis of schizophrenia for those diagnosed between 1996 and 2014.
