Houston's William P. Hobby Airport is looking to add seven new gates, six operated by Dallas-based Southwest Airlines.
The plans also include additional baggage claim carousels and a handling system, along with restroom upgrades.capped at 20 gates as part of the 2006 Wright Amendment Reform Act.in addition to Hobby.
The airport still needs to finalize the agreement and take it to Houston City Council for approval, Szczesniak said. After city approval, the project would undergo design and environmental review before construction can begin.“While we are still finalizing the terms and business agreement, we’re glad to underscore this is the direction we are heading for Hobby,” said Dan Landson, spokesman for Southwest Airlines.
Meanwhile, population and business growth in Houston has demanded expansion, Szczesniak said. In 2022, the airport saw 6.4 million passengers, traveling on both international and domestic flights,
