South Carolina would join Utah as just the second state to carry out an execution via firing squad in the past 40 years if the court rules in its favor.

reportedly investing nearly $54,000 renovating

the area in which it carries out the executions in the state’s capital, Columbia, so that it would accommodate a three-man firing squad. That group would, reportedly, fire rounds from a portal 15-feet away from the prisoner. The state made the move last year after it faced a low supply of lethal injection drugs. The firing squad would be offered as an alternative to the electric chair. The state’s Department of Corrections reportedly told its Attorney General’s office last week that it is now prepared to carry out the executions pending approval from the state’s Supreme Court.Sigmon was sentenced to death in 2002 after he was found guilty of killing David and Gladys Larke in 2001.
