Jaguars beat ULM on walk-off homer; Trojans run-rule Coastal Carolina
Bailey Welch’s home run leading off the bottom of the 12th gave South Alabama a 2-1 victory over Louisiana-Monroe in the quarterfinals of the Sun Belt Conference softball tournament on Thursday in San Marcos, Texas.
“I had been scuffling my previous at-bats,” Welch said. “I thought I was seeing the ball well, but I wasn’t barreling them up the way I wanted to. Going into that at-bat, I knew I just had to be aggressive; that’s when I’m at my best. Hulett took the loss for ULM after allowing one run on three hits in 4 1/3 innings. Warhawks starter Maddie Nichols gave up a run on six hits in 6 2/3 innings.
