Gators run-rule Jaguars for 2nd straight day
Coach Becky Clark and South Alabama saw their season end with a 9-1 loss to Florida in the NCAA Softball Gainesville Regional on Sunday. South Alabama’s softball season is over, the Jaguars falling victim to SEC and national powerhouse Florida for the second straight day in the NCAA Gainesville Regional.
“I give credit to Florida and what they did; they obviously are an amazing team and they’re full of athletes and they’re full of competitors and they’re well-coached. We gave our best effort. We were working really hard to push it to Game 2. If we could force a Game 2, then anything could happen.with a 5-1 victory late that night. The Jaguars reached the regional final for the fourth time in program history and the first time since 2015, but fell short of advancing to their first Super Regional.
“This was our second time seeing this team,” said Erickson, a transfer from Oklahoma. “So I was just trying to go out there with a bang, get ahead early. The previous game we had kind of let them stay in the game, so I was like ‘we need to just end it right here, right now.’” “I was just trying to be fair to and what we’ve asked her to do, knowing that we did have to win two,” Clark said. “Tori Miller has given us some great innings, the win against Mississippi State. Madison Lagle held Arizona to one run. So we kind of went that route early on. Cadence Williams threw well against Missouri.
Lackie — a four-time first-team All-Sun Belt Conference selection — is one of six seniors who played their final game for the Jaguars on Sunday. That group also includes All-Sun Belt leadoff hitter/center fielder Mackenzie Brasher, first baseman Gabby Stagner , left fielder Bailey Welch , catcher Sasha Willems , shortstop Marley Sims and Cordova, the starting second baseman.
