Jaguars give up six runs in fourth inning
The Jaguars allowed six runs in the inning — including a three-run triple on a misplayed ball in the outfield — on the way to a 7-4 loss to Louisiana-Monroe at Stanky Field. South Alabama — whichon Friday night — falls to 28-22 overall, 12-14 in the Sun Belt Conference, with the series finale set for 1 p.m. Sunday.
South Alabama took a 2-0 lead on Micah Morgan’s 2-run single in the bottom of the first, but things fell apart for the Jaguars in the aforementioned top of the fourth. ULM sent 10 men to the plate, six of them scoring, the last three thanks to some shabby South Alabama defense. South Alabama right fielder Ethan Melton appeared to be tracking the ball, but there was some sort of miscommunication between Melton and center fielder Will Turner. Turner ended up diving for the ball, but could not come up with it, and all three runners scored on Jones’ triple to make it 6-2.
