A new report says that Sony is requiring all PlayStation games to have two hour demos attached to them for PlayStation Plus Premium subscribers.
This feels like a lose-lose on the developer side without question. At best, this will be them implementing some sort of EA Play-like timed trial which raises a lot of questions of cut-off points and other issues. Or an actual, two hour demo would have to be a more curated section of a specific part of the game that would be even more work to implement..
Some games do offer demos already and free weekends and such, and while they would still be allowed to do this under the Sony mandate, the two hour requirement would be there for all games over that price point.pro consumer, they could simply do what Steam does and offer refunds within two hours on all games.
The idea of putting access to game demos behind a paid tier of PS Plus always sounded like a pretty bizarre subscription perk. But if Sony’s doing this as a mandate for all major developers, this does not feel like a good idea for any party involved here.
