Does Sony's characterization of their conversations with Disney over Spider-Man leave the door open for future participation by Kevin Feige if business issues can be resolved?

Asked whether negotiations were continuing or whether this constituted the last word from Sony's perspective, a Sony spokesperson reiterated its official statement. Marvel did not immediately respond to a request for comment. All of this collaboration was done under an agreement that saw Marvel receive five percent of first-dollar gross on Sony-produced pictures featuring the MCU version of Spidey, plus merchandising revenues. Sony is satisfied with that deal. Marvel and Disney apparently are not, asking for a 50/50 cofinancing split as the cost of the continued participation of Kevin Feige in ongoing projects.
It's easy to see Marvel's position: they had a successful franchise run before Spider-Man joined the party, and maybe they'll be fine without him. Plus they still own the merchandising rights, which are considerable. Sony's track record on Spider-Man projects without Feige is mixed, despite the recent critical and commercial success of Phil Lord and Chris Miller's animated, which topped $856 million worldwide.
