Time to load up on chili dogs as SonicTheHedgehog2 is light speed dashing to Paramount+ tomorrow and hitting shelves this August!
After surpassing its predecessor at the box office, Sonic the Hedgehog 2 is racing home as Paramount announces its streaming and Blu-ray release dates. Based on SEGA's hit video game franchise, the 2022 movie sequel picks up eight months after the events of its predecessor as Sonic anxiously tries to show his worth as a hero on Earth, despite constant errors made in his efforts.
Ben Schwartz returned to lead the cast of Sonic the Hedgehog 2 as the titular hero alongside Jim Carrey as Robotnik, James Marsden as Tom, Tika Sumpter as Maddie, Natasha Rothwell, Adam Pally and Lee Madjoub. The film also marked the franchise debuts of Shemar Moore, Idris Elba as Knuckles and the proper introduction of Colleen O'Shaughnessey's Miles"Tails" Prower after a brief appearance in the first film's post-credits scene.
News of Sonic the Hedgehog 2's streaming and Blu-ray release dates comes a few weeks after the film overtook its predecessor's overall box office haul, having crossed the $375 million mark after just a month of being in theaters.
For those who have fallen in love with the franchise thus far, Sonic the Hedgehog 2 won't mark the end of the screen adaptations of SEGA's video game series. Paramount is currently developing both a Sonic the Hedgehog 3 movie and Knuckles spinoff show set at Paramount+ and slated for a 2023 release, though with Carrey considering a retirement from acting, it's unknown whether he will return for either project.
