The teams played pretty evenly in the first half, despite a blocked punt on the Mustangs’ first possession that the Sooners recovered at the SMU 40 and turned into a touchdown three plays later. Gabriel hit a wide-open Andrel Anthony for a 29-yard scoring pass over the middle, after freezing the SMU defensive line with a fake handoff.
