State lawmakers on Monday took a small step in filling what’s been described as a “catastrophic” number of court vacancies in New Jersey by signing off on a half dozen nominees to the state Superior Court.

But judicial advocates continue to sound the alarm over what they say is an unprecedented number of vacancies that will have a lingering ripple effect the longer those seats remain vacant.
