Friday night’s series opener at Minnesota is the start of not only a weeklong Midwest road trip, but the first of 15 games the A’s will play over a span of 13 days.
There are two doubleheaders sandwiched into the stretch as the result of the lockout-delayed start to the season.
“These guys are battling,” manager Mark Kotsay told reporters after the A’s 3-0 loss to the Rays on Wednesday. “They’re grinding. This is part of the grind through the season. You try to weather the storm.” Just like their previous three road opponents, the Twins look like a playoff contender. Minnesota has gone 11-3 to move into first in the AL Central after losing eight of their first 12 games.
