Slowdive’s sold-out return to the area at The Roxy at Mahall’s in Lakewood was one for the ages—a gig 30-plus years in the making. The only thing more white-hot than their career spanning, 90-minute set was the club itself. Literally. The new venue boasts a capacity of 800, but before showtime the assumption was that meant people, not degrees Fahrenheit. Turns out it was both. The former bowling alley HVAC simply couldn’t keep up.

A contender for album of the year, “Alive” is nothing short of a moving, mature masterpiece. The new record made up a third of the set, with renditions of “Prayer Remembered” and “The Slab” saved for the encore.
