headquarters in Kyiv. Some who remained in the Ukrainian capital clock in from home. Others have followed the brand’s founders Asya Varetsa and Kate Zubarieva to Istanbul, where the leisure clothing label has set up a temporary outpost, or work remotely from wherever they were forced to go after war broke out in their country. Yet Varetsa and Zubarieva say they still “dream” of coming back to the office they were forced to abandon this past February.

Set in a former shoe factory in Podil, the headquarters are both an ode to the design history of Ukraine and its potential future: Varetsa and Zubarieva asked local architects, Veronika Arutunyan and Olga Malyshenko, then in their early twenties, to put together their space. They completed the project in late 2021.When it came to the design itself, they took their cues from the Zoloti Vorota metro station, which in turn resembles a Kievan Rus temple.

A 1960s chair that once belonged to the Dnipro Hotel in the central Ukrainian city. There’s a certain softness to the Sleeper office, which makes perfect sense. Given the brand is known best for its sumptuous pajamas and throw-on linen dresses, creating a comfortable interior was central to Varetsa and Zubarieva’s ethos for their HQ.
