Troopers encountered Craig Williams when they arrived at the residence and he initially claimed hiis parents were not home. He was charged with two counts each of first-degree murder, second-degree desecration of human remains, and third- and fourth-degree weapons possession charges, along with hindering apprehension, obstruction and tampering with evidence.

A review of video doorbell footage at the victims’ house found the defendant was the only person coming and going from the residence in the days before police arrived March 13, Wettstein told the court. Based on his prior record, Helfrich argued that her client appears to be someone with a “very significant drug problem” who should be released so he can receive treatment.

On his initial refusal to let police inside the home on March 13, Helfrich said the defendant didn’t live in the house with his parents, but lived in a “shed area” in the back of the property. He didn’t feel he had the right to grant police access to his parents home, she said.
